Dilemma

Rocky Butte is a local treasured crag made up of basaltic andesite that overlooks the 205 corridor adjacent to GateWay Green Bike park directly over the freeway. ODOT manages the property the best of its abilities but its long been neglected by the down trodden living in exile in our our community with a long history in Portland that goes back well over a century. It’s currently in a bad state with a large amount of litter, human waste, syringes, condoms in its basin. Also here is 60 years of climbing. FAs sandbagged everything for the purists of climbing. If you want beta it can be found here in detail the routes.

Send Productions motto is sunlight is the best disinfectant and finding solutions where problems are in the community & leaving our natural spaces better than we found it. Stewards are dedicated to cleaning up the approach trails and keeping the climbs cleaned up from major neglect. We love our natural spaces but unless we act we are going to love these places to death with the abuse and thrashing that has been going on along the crags nestled along 205 corridor. Graffiti with racial slurs and with sex trafficking of people frequenting the park is completely unacceptable & in desperate need of social workers & park rangers responding in the park offering solutions and vanquishing the criminal element festering in the shadows of its constructs. Our goal is to work towards not turning a blind eye & park adoption for this natural space and getting the circulation it deserves for future generations to enjoy and be managed by the Portland Parks & Recreation,.

Heroin and broken glass can be found throughout the park.

Heartbreaking scene to see once a pristine crag thrashed to climbers who love the outdoors so much. Climbers embody some of the very best qualities the human spirit has to offer. Rocky Butte not only has great climbing but it also has a lot of desperate homeless people who need help and dignity restored. It’s not an easy fix and not about punching down. It’s about trying to leave a space better than you found it and leaving future generations reservations for great memories from such a beautiful place.
